Apple has finally published the highly anticipated Mac OS X 10.10.3 update for Yosemite to the App Store, for all MacBook and iMac owners worldwide, so we're reporting today the new features it brings.

If you've watched the press lately, you would know that the biggest feature in today's OS X 10.10.3 Yosemite update is an all-new application called Photos or Photos for Mac, as it is popularly known because it's a port of the Photos app from iOS.

Besides Photos, the new OS X 10.10.3 update for Yosemite brings a considerable number of under-the-hood improvements meant to keep your Mac stable and reliable, as well as to improve its overall performance and security.

Other highlights include over 300 new emoji characters, Spotlight suggestions to Look up, Safari improvements, better WiFi support, improved Bluetooth support, and better screen sharing reliability.

Introducing Photos for Mac

Photos for Mac means that two things will change/improve in your Mac. First of all - yes, the rumors are true - existing iPhoto and Aperture users should know that the new Photos app will replace their beloved applications, but that's a good thing (see the second thing below).

Second of all, Photos finally brings convergence for all your multimedia files, which means that when you take a photo/video or create an image/screenshot on one of your Apple devices and place them on the Photos app, they will immediately be available on all of your devices where the Photos app is installed.

For example, let's say that you take a photo with your iPhone, and you want to edit it quickly on your MacBook Pro. If OS X 10.10.3 is installed, you can do this task in a blink of an eye, just open the new colorful icon on your Dock and the photo will be there.

We have an in-depth review of Photos for Mac on Softpedia, so we suggest reading it now if you want to learn more about Photos for Mac, because the application is more complex than its iOS counterpart.

How to update your Mac to OS X 10.10.3 Yosemite right now

If you're running Mac OS X 10.10.2 Yosemite, which you should, you can easily update your Mac computer to OS X 10.10.3 by opening the App Store app and accessing the Updates tab.

Wait a few seconds for the Mac OS X 10.10.3 Yosemite update to appear on the list for updates, and then click on the "Update" button next to it. Being a system update means that you will be asked if you want to Download and Restart your Mac, after agreeing to the license.

Once the download is finished, which will take a while depending on your Internet connection, your computer will restart for the OS X 10.10.3 update to be applied. Then, you can login and enjoy your improved Yosemite operating system and the new features it brings.
