2K Games and Gearbox Software are planning to make history next month with the confirmation that Duke Nukem Forever has reached Gold status. Sadly, for Mac users, the title will not be available on Mac OS X, according to the official announcement.

The two companies responsible with developing and publishing the title made it official in a press release saying “Duke Nukem Forever, one of the most anticipated entertainment properties of all time, has ‘gone gold’ and will be available at retailers on June 10, 2011 internationally and on June 14, 2011 in North America.”

That’s all fine and dandy for most of the world’s gamers who’ve waited for this game for over a decade, but not for the Macintosh user base, as the report implies.

“The road to gold was paved over the course of 15 years and its legendary path climaxes on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation computer entertainment system and Windows PC,” reads the official report from 2K Games and Gearbox Software (emphasis ours).

The duo also confirmed that pre-ordering the title from select outlets will ensure that gamers are among the first to experience the legendary title when the demo launches on June 3, 2011 for all of these supported platforms.

The demo will be available exclusively to Duke Nukem First Access Club Members.

A few years back, Mac gamers were all but used to being left out in the cold when new games were announced.

More recently, however, studios like Aspyr Media strived to port the most popular titles to the Mac as well.

Renowned developers like Valve brought their attention to the Mac install base as things started to pick up for Apple, as far as desktop market share was concerned.

Steam is now available for Mac users too, with hit games like Portal 2 making waves on the platform but, sadly, Duke won’t be one of them.

Perhaps at a later date...
