Slitherine has confirmed the release of Field of Glory for Mac OS X. Touted by some as the perfect game of its kind, Field of Glory is inspired by the tabletop wargaming system. The Mac version is fully compatible with the PC counterpart, allowing Mac users to challenge PC gamers in multiplayer and vice versa. Field of Glory for Mac has been developed by HexWar, a relatively young development studio.

“We are pleased to announce that the award winning wargame Field of Glory is now available for the Mac OS platform,” Slitherine states on its web site. “Alongside the main game the first 2 army packs, Rise of Rome and Storm of Arrows, are available on the store. Immortal Fire, the third army pack, will see a simultaneous release on PC and Mac on the 15th July and is available for pre-order now,” the publisher reveals.

“Inspired by the tabletop wargaming system, the digital edition of Field of Glory has been a worldwide success, bringing a great deal of innovation to the genre, especially with regards to the introduction of server based PBEM (Play by E-Mail) that makes multi-player accessible and fun and the revolutionary D.A.G. (Digital Army Generator) included in the army packs that allows player to create their own custom armies and battles and challenge other players over the internet,” Slitherine outlines.

A number of key features are also offered on the game’s official web page. These include the ability to decide the results of historical battles; detailed and accurate depiction of ancient warfare (combat mechanics, leaders, morale); single and 2 player head to head modes with an internet based multi-player system; 18 battles of varying size; the ability to play as Achaean League, Carthage, Caledonians, Gaul, Germanic Tribes, Macedonians, Spartacus Slave Revolt, Romans or even Romans vs. Romans at Pharsalus; a comprehensive scenario builder including graphics for 11 different terrain types with western European and arid settings;  and 141 different battle group types with almost limitless ability to modify their individual behaviour in the game.
