The free Mac antivirus ClamXav by Mark Allan has received a major update to support a key feature of OS X Mountain Lion, Apple's next-generation Mac OS launching in a matter of weeks.

The engine has been updated to ClamAV 0.97.5, and the app itself has been signed with Developer ID for the Gatekeeper security function in OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.

Allan notes “big changes” under the hood of ClamXav with the purpose of supporting sandboxing. He adds that sandboxing has yet to be enabled in his app.

The developer further implemented command-A and command-C to copy details in the Infected List, and added support for system-wide preferences. The updated ClamXav 2.3 also employs reworked logic in Sentry to lower the RAM usage and keep it at a more constant level.
