Alcatel is a supporter of Mozilla's Firefox operating system for mobile, so it's not surprising that it launches smartphones powered by this platform. However, not many carriers around the world committed to offering these smartphones to their customers.

The good news is that Mozilla is adding more and more carriers to the list of operators willing to sell cheap Firefox OS-based smartphones.

During its presence at Mobile World Congress 2015, Mozilla and Orange announced a partnership that will see Alcatel's Klif smartphone powered by Firefox OS launched in select budget-friendly markets.

“The Orange Klif is the ultimate expression of our commitment to making mobile internet connectivity more accessible. With its world-class connectivity speeds, affordability and rich features, it remains the quintessential entry-level smartphone, and we thank Firefox and Orange for supporting its introduction,” said Dan Dery, chief marketing officer for ALCATEL ONETOUCH.

It will be available as a feature phone as well

So, the smartphone will ship with Firefox OS 2.0 and will pack a low-end 1GHz dual-core processor, complemented by 256MB of RAM and 512MB of internal memory. MicroSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB) will be included as well.

Orange Klif supports 3G and HSPA+ (21Mbps), as well as dual-SIM. On the back, there's a 2-megapixel camera with LED flash and video recording.

The smartphone sports a small 3.5-inch HVGA (320 x 480 pixels) resolution and features FM Radio, GPS and 1300 mAh battery, which is rated for up to 380 hours of standby time or up to 7 hours of talk time.

“Orange is pleased to have ALCATEL ONETOUCH as a partner in the delivery of the Orange Klif smartphone. Our collaboration demonstrates our shared commitment to provide mobile internet access to everyone across the AMEA region,” said Yves Maitre, executive vice president of Connected Objects and Partnerships, Orange.
