14 DAY TRIAL // Acer announced quite a few smartphones at Mobile World Congress 2015, including a Windows Phone smartphone which will be available in Europe soon.
But Acer is known lately for its Android smartphones, so the announcement of two new affordable handsets powered by Google's operating system shouldn't be surprising at all.
Acer Z220 and Z520 are two smartphones running Android 5.0 Lollipop platform, which will be introduced in Europe in the coming weeks. There's no word on price yet, but this may vary on region.
Moving on to specs, the cheaper of the two should be the Z220, which is equipped with a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD card slot.
The smartphone sports a 4-inch WVGA (480 x 800 pixels) resolution display with 233ppi and a 5-megapixel camera on the back, which is complemented by a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
According to Acer, the Liquid Z220 has a dual-SIM version as well, but this model might only be available unlocked and SIM free.
Android 5.0 Lollipop with the lowest hardware possible
Next in line, Acer Liquid Z520 is slightly better than the Z220, but not by much. First of all, the former comes with a better 1.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor.
It packs the same amount of memory: 1GB RAM and 8GB internal memory. Obviously, it features microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).
Another improvement would be the 8-megapixel camera on the back, which features LED flash, autofocus and video recording. The 2-megapixel front camera is of the same quality as the Z220's, but good enough for video calls.
Acer has also confirmed that Liquid Z520 comes with DTS Studio Sound, which promises to deliver “astonishing stereo sound with bigger sound field, higher vocal clarity and more natural details.”
