Sony's next flagship smartphone is called Xperia Z2. The device was tipped for a Mobile World Congress (MWC 2014) reveal a few weeks ago and now the Japanese company has officially introduced it to the world.

The Xperia Z2 is a slightly better version of the Xperia Z1, as the handsets are almost similar when it comes to design and most of the features.

Although Sony did not mention it, Xperia Z2 is likely to ship with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box. According to Sony, the smartphone will be available for purchase beginning March for a price that will be disclosed closer to launch.

Sony Xperia Z2 is IP55/IP58 water resistant and packs an amazing 20.7-megapixel rear-facing camera, which features the 1/2.3-type Exmor RS for mobile CMOS image sensor, along with Sony’s G Lens and intelligent BIONZ for mobile image processing engine.

It is also worth mentioning that users will be able to capture videos in 4K resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels @30fps). That's four times the detail of full HD video recording.

Furthermore, the Xperia Z2 boasts a stunning 5.2-inch full HD (1080p) TRILUMINOUS capacitive touchscreen display that features Live Colour LED for rich natural colors.

The Xperia Z2 is armed with the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.3 GHz, which is complemented by an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit and 3GB of RAM.

Last but not least, the smartphone is powered by a high-capacity 3200 mAh battery, which is said to provide “outstanding, class-leading battery performance.”

“With Xperia Z2 we have taken our premium Z series to the next level, delivering unique experiences that only Sony can offer. We have redefined the smartphone once again through our camera. Xperia Z2 offers an innovative experience that captures memories in stunning detail through 4K video shooting, or offers new ways to use the camera with our unique Xperia camera apps.

Furthermore, the Best of Sony has been delivered in the sound quality and customers are now able to listen to their music even in noisy environments without interruptions thanks to our acclaimed digital noise cancelling technology,” said Kunimasa Suzuki, president and CEO, Sony Mobile Communications.
