Russian company YotaPhone Devices amazed the telecommunication world when it showcased its dual-screen Yota Phone handset last year at Mobile World Congress 2013 trade fair.

Well, it appears that the Russian handset maker is back this year with yet another innovative smartphone that is aimed to fix some of the problems affecting the previous model.

On top of that, Yota Devices worked hard to improve the overall design of its products, so they look more appealing to potential customers.

According to Yota Devices CEO Vlad Martynov, the second generation YotaPhone is better looking than its predecessor in many ways.

“The next generation YotaPhone is sleeker, thinner and even more beautiful. The sleek, soft and rounded body fits naturally and comfortably in your hand. We’ve taken a gorgeous phone and made it even more stunning,” said Martynov.

During our visit at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, we have been lucky enough to be able to get our hands on the next-generation YotaPhone. The Russian company’s booth at the trade fair was one of the most crowded we’ve ever seen, so getting hands-on pictures with the newly announced device was quite a challenge.

Apart from that, the few prototypes showcased at the booth were not 100% functional and had lots of software bugs, which we were assured that would not be present in the final version of the product.

As you can see from the photos we’ve taken, the newest YotaPhone handset is more appealing with its rounded edges sleeker layout.

As one would expect from the company that brought us the first YotaPhone, the sequel comes with two full-touch displays. One of the phone’s screens stays always on to display all the notifications, emails, SMSs and other alerts.

This particular always-on EPD display is 4.7 inches (540 x 960 pixels) in size and features a built-in light, so users will be able to read even in bright sunlight or in darker environments.

On the back, the smartphone sports a much better 5-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution, then the previous YotaPhone model.

According to the company’s CEO, even though the next-generation YotaPhone comes with two displays, the handset should still deliver more than 50 hours of battery life when reading on the always-on display.

We’ve been told that the next-generation YotaPhone will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, which puts it in the high-end smartphone category.

Overall, we’ve been impressed by YotaDevices’ work on its next dual-screen smartphone and think it’s the one of the most innovative gadgets presented this year at MWC 2014.
