Like Qualcomm and Intel, MediaTek has also pulled a 64-bit processor, called the MT6732, out of the box.

As FoneArena notes, the MediaTek MT6732 is an ARM Cortex-A53 chip with Mali-T760 graphics and 4G LTE support. The processor is one the first to be based on the ARMv8 architecture and is aimed for mid-range smartphones/tablets.

Apple’s iPhone and iPads already enjoy the 64-bit ARM processor treatment, but competition is getting tougher for the Cupertino tech giant, as today Qualcomm has just launched a powerful eight-core 64-bit processor aimed at high-end mobile devices.

Samsung is also expected to unveil its 64-bit offering, dubbed Exynos Infinity later today, as well. Anyway, going back to MediaTek’s first 64-bit processor this is a 1.5GHz chip offering support for Wi-Fi, Miracast technology, Bluetooth, LTE, HSPA+ networks.

The new architecture will be able to handle cameras up to 13MP and low-power 1080 video recording.

MediaTek says the new chip will become available starting Q3 2014, so the first devices bundling it could appear by the end of the year.
