Along with the Desire 816, HTC has announced the upcoming availability of the Desire 610, a slightly less-featured mid-range smartphone.

The handset is now showcased at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 trade fair and, according to HTC, it will go on sale in Europe in May.

No word on price tag yet and we’re still not sure if the Desire 610 will be launched in other regions as well, but we expect more details to emerge in the coming weeks.

Information on the Desire 610’s software is a bit scarce for the moment, as the only thing confirmed by the Taiwanese handset maker is the fact that it will ship with Android Jelly Bean operating system with HTC Sense 5.5 UI on top.

The company has also confirmed that the smartphone will come preloaded with HTC BlinkFeed and BoomSound capabilities, which are usually included with most mid- to high-range Android smartphones launched by HTC.

In terms of hardware, things are clearer as HTC has announced that the Desire 610 is powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and packs 1GB of RAM.

The phone comes packed with only 8GB of internal memory, but it’s likely to offer a lot less free storage, so users will want to fit the smartphone with microSD memory card. The device allows users to add microSD cards of up to 64GB.

4G LTE connectivity is another strong point of the Desire 610, as confirmed by HTC. Other connectivity options integrated within the phone include HSPA (42MBps) and HSUPA (5.76Mbps), Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS with GLONASS support.

Furthermore, the Desire 610 sports a 4.7-inch qHD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 540 x 960 pixels resolution and 234ppi (pixel density), which is quite decent for a mid-range phone.

The smartphone also comes equipped with an enhanced 8-megapixel rear-facing camera that features autofocus, LED flash and HD (720p) video recording. A secondary 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls is included as well.

HTC Desire 610 is about 9.6mm thin and weighs 143.5g (battery included). Speaking of which, the phone is powered by a non-removable 2040 mAh Li-Polymer battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.

“Consumer choice should be about selecting the best-in-class features without having to compromise on quality. The HTC Desire 610 offers an outstanding combination of performance and entertainment at a price that makes it possible for everyone to enjoy an exceptional smartphone experience,” said Philip Blair, president, HTC EMEA.
