The tablet was released for developers to encourage the growth of the Tizen ecosystem

There was quite a talk about the Tizen OS at MWC 2014, and we saw the OS arrive on Samsung’s new Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches.

But do you remember that a tablet boasting the same operating system was pushed out some time last year? Well, the guys over at Tabtech managed to track it down at MWC 2014 and take a closer look at it.

I’m talking about the Systena tablet, which runs Samsung’s alternative Tizen OS. The tablet was launched back in June and was aimed at developers.

Systena boasts a 10.1-inch display with HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) and draws power from an Exynos 4412 quad-core processor (like the one used in the Galaxy Note 2 or Galaxy Note 10.1) combined with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

Judging by the configuration, the tablet should run smoothly but, according to the report, it really doesn’t, lagging a lot in performance. Well, the tablet-optimized Tizen OS is certainly still in development and it might be a long while before we see a slate running Sammy’s OS appear in retail.

However, the Tizen platform seems to be advancing quite slowly, so there’s no way to know if we’re going to be seeing a smoother and more optimized version of the OS arrive this year.

Check out the video of the first Tizen OS tablet above, but be warned that it’s in German. However, you’ll be able to get an idea of how the system looks and feels.
