14 DAY TRIAL // Motorola DEFY Mini and Motorola PRO+ were two of the smartphones that the United States-based mobile phone maker brought along at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Both these devices run under Google’s Android operating system and both of them are destined for the lower-end of the market.
Even so, they still have appealing features, along with optimizations for increased performance levels.
Just as its name suggests, the Motorola DEFY Mini was released as the successor of Motorola’s rugged DEFY smartphones.
The handset is touted for its long-life 1650 mAh battery, which also features optimized performance, as well as for the dustproof and water resistant capabilities, complemented by a Corning Gorilla Glass display that can withstand scratches.
The handset packs a 600 MHz application processor, 20 MB end user memory (a microSD memory card slot as well), and a 3.2-inch HVGA (480 x 320) touchscreen display on the front.
The smartphone also comes to the market with a 3-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with LED flash and video recording, as well as with a front-facing VGA camera for making video calls. WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth and GPS/aGPS were also thrown in for good measure.
With Motorola PRO+, the handset vendor moved closer to the business-grade looks that RIM’s BlackBerry smartphones feature. The phone packs both a 3.1-inch screen, as well as a QWERTY keyboard to expand the available input options.
This device was launched with a 5 MP camera on the back, with LED flash and video recording capabilities, WiFi 802.11 b,g,n and Bluetooth, aGPS (assisted), speakerphone, 3.5mm headphone jack, and the like.
Running under Google’s Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system, the handset also brings along a series of specific features and applications designed for the business users. Its 1550 mAh battery can deliver up to 325 hours of standby time.
