At this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Huawei announced the launch of its Ascend D quad smartphone, and that of some other devices in the lineup. Packing a large 4.5-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a 720p HD pixel resolution, the new smartphone is one of the most impressive devices we had the chance to see at the MWC 2012 show.

The most appealing feature that this device arrives on shelves with is Huawei’s K3V2 quad-core 1.2GHz/1.5GHz processor, which should provide it with increased performance capabilities.

Moreover, the handset runs under Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and packs Huawei’s proprietary power management system, which was designed to deliver up to 30 percent energy savings.

“We’ve listened to people’s top demands from smartphones: speed, long-battery life, high quality visual and audio capabilities, and a compact, lightweight handset. The Huawei Ascend D quad exceeds these expectations,” Richard Yu, chairman of Huawei Device, commented on the launch.

“In January at the Consumer Electronics Show at Las Vegas, we achieved a world record for the world’s slimmest smartphone with the Huawei Ascend P1 S. We are proud to once again introduce a world-first at the 2012 Mobile World Congress with the Ascend D quad, the fastest smartphone.”

The specifications list of this device includes a 32-bit true color graphic processor, along with Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound and Audience earSmart voice technology, and the PPI 330 screen for crystal clear display even under sunlight.

Huawei Ascend D quad was announced with an 8-megapixel BSI rear-facing camera with HD video recording, and with a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera for video calling.

The handset also packs 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and a 1800mAh battery that can deliver up to two days of normal usage. The phone is 64mm narrow and 8.9mm slim.

At the MWC, Huawei announced that its Ascend D quad series would be launched in China, Australia, Europe, Asia-Pacific, North and South America, and the Middle East starting with the second quarter of the year.
