Motorola Mobility Holdings, Inc. has made official during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona a new smartphone running under Google's Android operating system and aimed at the European market, namely the Motorola PRO.

The handset is nothing more than the European version of the DROID Pro, which was launched last year in the United States on the airwaves of wireless carrier Verizon.

As Motorola announced at the MWC 2011 show, where Softpedia's editors had the chance to take a closer look at the mobile phone, the new Motorola PRO arrives on shelves in Europe as a business-oriented smartphone.

Running under Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system and powered by a 1 GHz processor, the handset should provide users with all the features they need to be productive while on the go.

The smartphone packs a 3.1-inch (320 x 480 HVGA) touchscreen display, complemented by a QWERTY keyboard in a candybar form factor. It also includes 512MB RAM and 2GB of internal memory (2GB ROM, 1.5GB user accessible), expandable to up to 32GB via a microSD memory card slot.

The new Motorola PRO provides users with fast access to the Internet via support for 3G networks, along with WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR connectivity, to which Motorola added 3G mobile hotspot support (for up to 5 WiFi-enabled devices).

AGPS with support for Google Maps can also be added to the list of available features, along with Corporate Sync, DLNA, and various multimedia capabilities, including video recording capabilities via the phone's 5-megapixel auto focus photo snapper with Dual-LED flash.

According to Motorola, the new smartphone was packed with the speed, convenience, security and productivity tools that any business users would like to find in such as device.

“The business smartphone also includes QuickOffice pre-loaded and email support (Corporate Sync, Gmail, POP3/IMAP embedded, Push Email, Yahoo Mail),” the mobile phone maker announced.
