14 DAY TRIAL // At this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, mobile phone maker ALCATEL ONE TOUCH announced the upcoming availability of a nice range of new devices, with 28 new phone expected to be launched during the ongoing year alone. The company brought to the spotlight some of its latest handsets at the MWC 2011 expo, including the Android-based ONE TOUCH 990, and Softpedia's editors spent a few minutes playing with it.
The new mobile phone includes a large 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display (320 x 480 pixel resolution), and a 5-megapixel photo snapper with flash and auto focus.
Moreover, the device packs 3G+ HSDPA connectivity options, along with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.
The specifications list of ONE TOUCH 990 also includes WiFi connectivity, AGPS, e-compass, G-sensor, proximity sensor, and a VGA webcam.
The mobile phone is powered by a 600MHz processor, and drains life from a 1300mAh battery. It runs under Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system and will be released with a number of over 20 pre-embedded applications.
According to the company, the smarpthone should be released on shelves sometime in May this year, in two color flavors, Purple and Red.
The ONE TOUCH 990 was included in the handset vendor's Get Apps series, which would sport devices that offer preloaded apps and access to various software for increased personalization options.
The Get Apps lineup would include devices like ONE TOUCH 910, ONE TOUCH 908, ONE TOUCH 890 and ONE TOUCH 891. All these would be released during the next few months.
In addition to showcasing these smartphones, the company also unveiled its new ALCATEL ONE TOUCH brand.
“This is an important and strategic step for us. We want to create a stronger connection to our customers, and communicate this through our new brand, superior design and smarter products,” stated George Guo, CEO, TCL Communications, commenting on the announcement.
