Japanese electronics and handset manufacturer Fujitsu has showcased its new dual screen smartphone concept running a totally-different-than-usual looking Symbian mobile platform, as well as its newly developed waterproof technology, which can be embedded in most mobile phones.

Fujitsu's dual screen smartphone concept is based on a social networking-oriented UI, which offers users an immersive social sharing experience.

Pictures can be easily shared by dragging-and-dropping next to the icon of a friend, even between the two included touch screen displays.

Furthermore, the phone can easily divide the 'social' and 'personal' experiences into two screens making it easier to read and interact with data and information.

The smartphone features a swivel form factor, as the manufacturer has replaced the traditional keypad with a second large touch screen. Both screens can be rotated, so users will be able to manipulate them to meet their own needs.

In addition, Fujitsu's concept smartphone offers the possibility to use the two displays as a single larger screen, as well. The company also demoed a beta version of an Android-based UI running on a dual screen tablet concept.

During the 2011 Mobile World Congress, Fujitsu also showcased its waterproof technology, which is based on miniaturization and can be embedded in most mobile devices.

Compliant with current standards such as 'Waterproof IPX5/7/8' and 'Dustproof (IP5X),' this technology allows mobile phone owners to use their handsets in a wide variety of environments without fear of damage.

The new technology is also well adapted for use in outdoor leisure activities like fishing or gardening, as well as for users who work in trades such as farming or the fishing industry.

Fujitsu's 'waterproof technology' is fully applicable to all form factors, regardless of the mobile platform: clamshell, slide, swivel, slate, dual-axis hinge and more.

The Japanese company stated that both innovations would be available by the end of the year, but there are little chances that the dual screen smartphone will ever be released in Europe.
