14 DAY TRIAL // At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, computer maker Acer brought its ICONIA SMART device, a highly appealing smartphone-tablet hybrid, and Softpedia editors had the chance to spend a few minutes with the behemoth, to provide a series of hands-on impressions on it.
Packing a huge 4.8” widescreen with a 21:9 aspect ratio, the Acer ICONIA SMART is one of the largest smartphones in the world, which was designed to provide users with tablet PC capabilities as well, all packed inside an impressive chassis.
This device's design stands up in the crowd courtesy of a stretched out, thin and slightly curved shape, which feels great in the hand.
Moreover, the Acer ICONIA SMART sports a full metal body, with subtle wavy patterns, which adds to its elegance, and makes it even more appealing, as well as would the smoothly curved back and its minimal width (64.5mm).
On the front, the new device packs a multi-touch, high resolution 4.8" screen, complemented by the presence of four keys, namely Home, Search, Back, and Menu. On the back, the ICONIA SMART sports an 8-megapixel photo snapper with LED Flash.
According to Acer, this device would easily prove a great option for those interested in enjoying a great web experience. The large 4.8" screen (12.2cm diagonal) that boasts a resolution of 1024 x 480 pixel does not require for sites to be resized, Acer claims.
Not to mention that the Android browser the phone comes with (it runs under the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system) provides features like multi-touch, Java script optimization, Adobe Flash Player 10.1 support, and even the possibility to open multiple pages at the same time.
The Acer ICONIA SMART also includes HSDPA @ 14.4 and WiFi n connectivity options, as well as Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and 6 axis motion sensing, 1.3MP camera on the front for video calling, and the latest Acer UI on top of Gingerbread.
