MTV’s EMAs 2010: 30 Seconds to Mars and Kanye West Perform

Admittedly, until some months ago, Kanye West was the one performer that organizers tried to avoid when drawing up the lineup for a music awards ceremony. Things have changed a lot lately and the 2010 EMAs are living proof of that.

Now promoting a brand new album and speaking about a new and improved self, Kanye West made a special, surprise appearance at a pre-EMAs gig this weekend.

Actor turned rocker Jared Leto and his 30 Seconds to Mars were performing at a venue outside the Caja Magica in Madrid, Spain, where the EMAs were held, when Kanye walked up on stage.

This time, though, he wasn’t there to crash the party or to tell Leto and his band that some other rocker had a better song than them – “of all time.” Instead, he performed.

As the video below will confirm, though many fans and part of the media turned on him after the Taylor Swift-gate, Kanye was never really gone – or, if he was, fans have been patiently waiting for him to come back.

The moment he set foot on stage, in the middle of “Hurricane,” the crowd went wild for him. With a little encouragement from Leto himself, the rapper truly got a reception fit for a king.

After Leto told the audience that Kanye had not flown all the way to Spain NOT to be cheered properly, the rapper performed his new single “Power.”

All this while, Jared supplied the dance “routine,” while also warming up the public. When he was done, Kanye quietly left and 30 Seconds to Mars continued their “Hurricane” song.

It wasn’t exactly a duet but it did leave fans wondering what would happen if the two (30 Seconds and Kanye) met up again, this time in a recording studio, perhaps with plans for a new, joint project.

Speaking of joint projects, the rapper recently announced he and Jay Z would be coming out with a joint album soon, but he didn’t mention a release date, as we also informed you a short while ago.
