German MTV will air the entire 'Popetown' cartoon series. The Catholic Church is not at all pleased with this decision of the German music television board but there is legally nothing to be done.
Last week when it announced it will air the Vatican-themed cartoon series Popetown some bishops from German-born Pope Benedict's home state of Bavaria aimed at preventing it from going ahead.
This week the first episode was aired and as it promised MTV had talks with several TV regulators and came up with the decision of continuing to air the whole 10 episodes season.
Most viewers were utterly entertained and the FSF, a voluntary television regulator, found no basis for a legal challenge. So, without the accept of the Bavarian Catholics, Popetown will finally be aired.
Initially the series were supposed to run at BBC 3 but an analysis led the administration board in doubt about the proportion of fun and offense the show has.
Popetown shows the Pontiff as a pogo-stick-riding maniac.
MTV executive Elmar Giglinger said: "Our decision is based in part on the reaction of the viewers who clearly voted in favor of its broadcast."
