Predictably, "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "American Hustle" lead the nominations

Ladies and gentlemen, the nominations for the 2014 MTV Movie Awards have been announced and, at first glance, it looks like there are no major surprises. In fact, there are just a couple of new picks from the major award show to account for the preferences of the younger generation the network caters to on a regular basis.

Unsurprisingly, the most nominations were earned by two popular movies this year, "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "American Hustle," but let's hope for their sake that they are actually going to win something and not repeat their Oscar performance where it's safe to say they both got snubbed.

Each movie managed an impressive 8 nominations, while being closely followed by "Hunger Games: Catching Fire" that earned only seven. Trailing behind them is the comedy "We're The Millers" with six nominations in total.

A big surprise is the fact that this year's Oscars darling, the space adventure “Gravity,” has only managed a single nomination for Sandra Bullock in the Best Actress category. Meanwhile, at the Oscars, it literally swept through the major categories taking home seven golden statuettes and coming out as the absolute winner.

“12 Year a Slave,” the winner of this year's Best Picture at the Oscars, also managed fewer nominations, coming in at four. It remains to be seen if fans will also pick it as the best movie for MTV and earn it that Golden Popcorn trophy.

The Best Picture category is regarded as the most important one since it will be the only one still open for public voting during the award show. MTV prides itself as one of the few award shows which lets the public decide who gets crowned as a winner.

Apart from the regular award show categories like Best Film and Best Male or Female Performance, the MTV Movie Awards has made a name for itself by adding some unusual categories such as Best Kiss, Best Fight and Best WTF Moment.

A special nod has to go to the unusual Best WTF Moment category which nominated the 15-actor fight scene in the comedy “Anchorman 2.” And don' think that the organizers were shy about listing each one in the nomination roster, because they weren't.

Leaving aside the odd categories, there were also some odd nominations, such as Brad Pitt being listed in the Best Comedic Performance category for his role in “World War Z,” which just happens to be an action movie, or nominating the Backstreet Boys for their on-screen performance in the apocalyptic satire “This Is The End.”

The 2014 MTV Movie Awards is going to be hosted by Conan O'Brien and is set to take place on April 13 at the Nokia Theater. Without further ado, let's see what this year's nominations are:
