The people have spoken: as with every year, the fans at home got their chance to honor the best in cinematography of the previous year. The big winners of the night at the MTV Movie Awards 2012 were, not surprisingly, “Hunger Games” and “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1.”

While the Academy Awards and other prestigious galas of the same nature are important because they are a good measure for the most critically successful films, the MTV awards, be they for music or film, are the voice of the people.

As such, it's no wonder that two of the biggest and most popular franchises received top honors: “Breaking Dawn” for Movie of the Year and “Hunger Games” for about everything else.

“Breaking Dawn Part 1,” the one before the last installment in the vampire saga “Twilight,” which tells the unlikely love story between a vampire and a mortal girl whom he eventually weds, beds, gets pregnant and turns, also won Best Kiss.

For some years now, leading stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are fixtures when it comes to winning this award, which speaks volumes of the power of the Twi-hards.

Unfortunately, unlike in previous years, the handsome Brit wasn't on hand to accept the award with his leading lady (and real-life girlfriend), which meant Kristen had to accept it on her own, while joking “where's my Huntsman?,” a reference to a character in her latest film, “Snow White and the Huntsman.”

“The Hunger Games,” on the other hand, won the most awards, which, again, should come as no surprise. Also based on a very popular series of novels, the first installment brought critical acclaim and box office success.

Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence, who play the leads, won both Best Male and Best Female performances, while Elizabeth Banks took home the award for Best On-Screen Transformation.

“The Hunger Games” also won for Best Fight, a title that went to “Twilight” in 2011.

Johnny Depp was honored for his lifetime achievement with the MTV Generation Award, while cutie Emma Stone took home the Trailblazer Award.
