When Robert Pattinson walked off the stage and into the crowd to kiss “Twilight” co-star Taylor Lautner instead of Kristen Stewart at the MTV Movie Awards, audiences were stunned. The other stars of the franchise say that it’s been a long time coming.

While the rest of the world was dying to see Rob and Kristen finally lock lips in real life as well, Jackson Rathbone, Kellan Lutz and Peter Facinelli tell MTV that they thought they’d never see the British hunk come to terms with his love for Taylor.

Obviously, they mean it as a joke, but they also make a valid point: the two managed to come up with one of the best moments of the night in agreeing to kiss on the mouth in front of the cameras.

“I was about damn time, man. It’s been up in the air for about three years now. I think we’ve all been waiting for Rob and Taylor to kiss,” Rathbone told MTV shortly after the awards show last night.

“We knew it was coming, and finally it did. Finally, they acknowledged their love for each other,” the actor joked.

He may also be talking about the fact that, while most Twi-hards focus on the Bella-Edward, Bella-Jacob relationships in the “Twilight” love triangle, no one actually stopped to wonder what would happen if Edward suddenly took a fancy in Jacob.

Last night’s kiss was the answer – and it couldn’t have happened without help from Kellan and Peter, they joke.

“They asked us to show them in practice,” Facinelli said for the same media outlet after the awards show. “We taught them everything they know,” added Lutz.

As we also informed you earlier today, the kiss happened when Robert and Kristen got up on stage to accept their award for Best Kiss.

While it was fun to watch, some “Twilight” fans were (again) left feeling frustrated they didn’t get to see their favorite actors lock lips. Check out the hilarious moment below.
