The Parent Television Council warns MTV to not allow explicit content anymore

This year's VMA (Video Music Awards) are just around the corner and the outraged parents are already issuing official letters to MTV, to make sure that last year's debacle which involved a scantily clad Miley Cyrus grinding on Robin Thicke on stage and fondling him with a foam hand, doesn't repeat itself.

Billboard claims that The PTC (Parents Television Council) has issued an official letter to MTV, calling last year's VMA a “public relations kerfuffle.” “Parents and families around the country have had ample reason to be concerned about the material distributed and promoted by MTV over the years, particularly during MTV's original programming,” writes PTC President Tim Winter.

The parents point out that Miley's performance was merely the cherry on top of the cake, but the entire show was otherwise very explicit in nature, and certainly not keeping with its TV-14 rating.

“Such a rating was simply unacceptable to the families who depend on the television ratings system to be applied accurately and to the millions of families whose children are marketed to by MTV. The 2013 VMAs were a public relations kerfuffle for your network that I feel certain you will not wish to repeat,” Winter continues.

This year promises to be just as controversial, since it has scheduled performances from Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Rita Ora, Iggy Azalea, Usher and Ariana Grande among others. The VMAs are scheduled to take place on August 24, at 9pm ET/PT.
