Indian carrier MTS has just announced the immediate availability of the MTag 353 budget-friendly smartphone. The device is now available for Rs 5,999 (115 USD or 90 EUR) outright.

According to AndroidOS, customers who purchase the MTS MTag 353 will also receive 512MB data for 2 months, 500 min local + STD per month for 3 months and 1p/2sec Local + STD for 6 months with Rs 154 FRC.

In addition, the carrier also provides free access to MTS TV for one month to all those who purchase the MTag 353. Keep in mind that the MTag 353 comes with two additional battery covers (yellow and white) inside the sales package.

Unfortunately, the smartphone is a bit on the low side when it comes to hardware and software configuration.

In fact, the MTS MTag 353 seems an obsolete device, as the phone is powered by Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform, which is considered old in a world of ICS-based devices.

Obviously, the smartphone packs a low-power 800 MHz single-core processor, though this is understandable if we take into consideration the fact that MTag 353 targets the low-end smartphone market.

Furthermore, MTS packed the MTag 353 with a pretty decent 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 320 x 480 pixels resolution, as well as a 3-megapixel photo snapper on the back.

No word on the amount of storage yet, but the carrier confirmed the MTag 353 features microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB). This would be the fourth MTag device launched by MTS in the past few weeks, after MTS announced the MTag 281, 351 and 352.

MTS MTag 353 is yet another class leading and one of the most stylish Smartphone from MTS. Aimed at the on the move, tech savvy youth, it comes bundled with exciting High Speed Data and Voice plans,” said Leonid Musatov, chief marketing & sales officer, MTS India.
