When it comes to their taxes

There is a lot that MSN Money can do for its users. First off, Microsoft has touted the website as being a top online financial resource. Second, the Redmond Company has made available a collection of tools and content designed to appeal to investors, spenders, savers, but mostly to your average Joe. An average lazy Joe, if we are to take into consideration the latest MSN Money survey, courtesy of Zogby Interactive.

The MSN Money survey revealed that Americans are not exactly rushing to pay their taxes. Microsoft concluded that no less than 2 out of 5 Americans are procrastinating on their taxes. Seriously now, can you blame them?

"39.6 percent of the Americans surveyed said they have not yet filed their taxes. The survey, which examined tax handling habits among 5,147 Americans between April 2 and April 4, 2007, further revealed that half of Americans are preparing their taxes themselves and that 55 percent are filing online," Microsoft added in a press release.

MSN Money also delivers advice, a tax estimator and the Deduction Finder in order to enable Americans to make the best out of the filing process. And these resources will surely not go to waste as the filing deadline set for April 17 is just one week away. Another thing that the survey pointed out is the fact that people between 18 and 29 have filed their taxes in a proportion of 75%, demonstrating more discipline and responsibility than the 49.8% between 50 and 64 that filed.

"In addition, the study found that those who have grown up with the Internet are filing online more than people in older age groups are. Nearly two-thirds of surveyed taxpayers age 18 to 29 are e-filing, while only 44.9 percent of those ages 50 to 64 are filing online. Those from older age groups were also much more likely to hire an accountant than younger age groups were," Microsoft added.
