The fact that an increasing number of virus authors are starting to focus on IM clients, as virus spreading agents, has also been confirmed by an IMLogic study.
According to the results, IMLogic says that the attacks on the IM clients have reached record values, their number being 14 times higher than last year's. What's even more worrying is that the level of the attacks' complexity has also increased.
IMLogic monitors most IM
clients and the results are quite interesting: MSN Messenger has the highest attack rate, with 62% of the reported cases. The second place is occupied by AIM, AOL's IM client, with 31% of the attacks.
Yahoo Messenger's users are less endangered, only 7% of the attacks targeting this client.
IMLogic warned that the majority of the attacks are worm-based, 87% of the reported incidents being included in this category. Only 12% of the attacks monitored by IMLogic were aimed at spreading a virus.
The company's representatives outlined that AIM and Yahoo users shouldn't neglect their systems' security just because MSN Messenger is now the "favorite" target.
