The market segment dedicated to nettops hasn't exactly been seeing a popularity surge similar to other products, such as DirectX 11 graphics cards or netbooks. Even so, however, they have still been selling because of their low prices and basic functionality, which makes them well suited for the public sector. One of the more recent models, which was demonstrated at the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show, is the MSI Wind Box DE220.

While the manufacturer has not exactly given out any kind of information on the device since CES, there are a number of features of the product that have been revealed, along with some pictures, when it was first demonstrated. While nettops are never performance monsters, this particular model does feature significant resources, at least memory- and storage-wise.

The nettop can come with either the Intel Atom D410 at 1.66GHz or the dual-core Intel Atom D510, with a clock also running at 1.66GHz. The storage capability of the PC is provided by a hard drive and amounts to 1TB, whereas the system memory is of no less than 4GB. These specifications are significant for an entry-level nettop, and they are supplemented by reasonable graphics capabilities provided by a Mobility Radeon HD 4330 graphics card.

The Pine Trail-based system measures 275 (H) x 170 (W) x 40 (D) mm, or 10.8″ x x 6.7″ x 1.6″. It will feature an optional 802.11b/g/n WiFi card and will be running the Windows 7 Home Premium operating system when it is finally released. Of course, given the lack of official word on the product, as well as overall scarcity of market rumors concerning not only this but any other type of device, there is no word on the actual date of the launch.

Predictably, the actual product price of the MSI Wind Box DE220 is just as unknown as its launch date.
