Just a few days ago, MSI unveiled some of the products the company is planning to showcase during CES 2011, including the GT680 that was touted as the world's fastest gaming notebook, recent reports suggesting this will be built around the upcoming 2630QM Intel Sandy Bridge processor.
According to the
Fudzilla website, this laptop will be one of the at least three Sandy Bridge-based models that MSI plans to launch during Q1 2011.
All of these notebooks will feature Full HD 1920x1080 displays as well as the high-end Core i7 2630QM CPU.
Coming as one of the highest clocked Sandy Bridge processors available, the quad-core 2630QM runs at 2.2GHz, the CPU frequency being further improved by the Turbo Core technology, and supports eight simultaneous threads and has an L3 cache size of 6MB.
As it's the case with all
Sandy Bridge processors, the CPU features Intel HD integrated graphics, MSI adding a GTX 460M discrete GPU with 1.5GB of GDDR5 memory and a HD capable webcam.
Other features include 4GB of DDR3 memory and a pair of 500GB hard drives that are set in a RAID 0 mode to further improve the system's performance.
According to the same source, the high-end notebook is called the GT680R, runs Windows 7 Ultimate and is bundled together with an Assassin’s Creed II gaming mouse and a gaming bag (whatever this may mean).
Once it comes to market, the system will be available in black-black or gray-black paintjobs, for a yet undisclosed price.
In order to claim the title of the world's fastest
gaming notebook, MSI provided us with a PCMark Vantage score, the GT680 managing to return an impressive 18,162 points in Futuremark's benchmarking application.
In order to achieve this result,
MSI states they used the company's own Turbo Drive Engine+ technology that overclocks both the CPU and the GPU simultaneously with a simple press of a button.
