After yesterday’s release of the GT783 17.3-inch gaming notebook, MSI has announced a new laptop in the GT-series, the GT685, which packs the same Nvidia GeForce GTX 580M graphics card but comes with a smaller 15.6-inch screen.

The new notebook is housed inside a chassis that is extremely similar with that of the GT783, but this time we don’t get the advanced SteelSeries keyboard that was included in the larger 17.3-inch model.

However, on the inside, we are greeted by the same Intel Core i7 Sandy Bridge processor sporting quad computing cores that can be paired with as much as 32GB of system memory.

For graphics duty, MSI has yet again decided to go with Nvidia’s powerful GeForce GTX 580M graphics card that it backed the same 2GB of dedicated GDDR5 video buffer.

In MSI’s creation, the Nvidia GPU is responsible for driving a 1920x1080 Full HD resolution display that measures 15.6-inch in diagonal.

As far as storage is concerned, MSI allows its customers to configure the GT685 notebook with various HDD delivering up to 1.5TB of storage capacity and/or with Intel SSDs. Up to 2 drives are supported and these can also be setup to form a RAID array.

The rest of the configuration list is fairly standard for a gaming notebook and includes Wi-Fi b/g/n, Gigabit LAN and Bluetooth connectivity, an HD webcam which can record images at 30fps, a DVD burner (Blu-ray is optional), as well as 2.1-channel Dynaudio sound system with THX TruStudio Pro certification.

Along the sides of MSI’s latest creation, users will find all the usual ports and connectors, including a multi-format cards reader, HDMI and VGA video outputs as well as eSATA and USB 3.0 storage ports.

No information regarding pricing or availability of the GT685 was made available by MSI at this time.
