MSI has just announced that its latest X-Slim X340 CULV-based laptop is now available for users in the United States, for an MSRP of $899,99, confirming the company's initials statements according to which the X340 would be made available for under US$1000. The X340, as some of you already know, sports an ultralight form factor and is powered by Intel's CULV platform, delivering a combination of computing performance, ultraportability and reduced power consumption. In addition, thanks to its sleek form factor, the X340 is considered a PC alternative to Apple's MacBook Air.

“We are excited to bring such a thin yet powerful notebook to market,” said Andy Tung vice president of sales, MSI US. “The X340 truly is the optimal convergence of mobility, form, and functionality.”

The X-Slim X340 laptop has been featured with Intel's ULV SU3500 processor, combined with 2GB of DRAM and the integrated GMA 4500MHD graphics chip. The system boasts a 13.4-inch 1,366 by 768 resolution and will provide you with a 320GB of storage space. Additional features include all the usual array of connectivity options such as Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR two USB 2.0 ports, VGA/HDMI outputs and even an SD/MMC card reader. There's also a 4-cell battery pack and a 1.3MP camera, to round up the system's overall specifications.

Featuring a thickness of just 0.78-inch, the X340 offers an alternative to those who are looking for an ultraportable PC, but want to take advantage of the higher performance enabled by Intel's CULV platform, compared to the more successful Atom platform.

The laptop is available from leading retailers such as Amazon.com, Newegg.com, Buy.com, Zipzoomfly.com, JR.com, and Excaliberpc.com in both Silver and Black options. You will find the X340 at US$899, but some retailers even have it for US$799.
