They may be made of wood and leather, but they look really hip

Notebook innovation never ceases to surprise audience. We have seen plenty of new designs, ranging from Asustek's bamboo PC that would make a great tech sandwich to any Panda bear around, to fully recyclable products. Each of the "innovative designs" were interesting, but lacked aesthetics. MSI comes with really nice offerings in the GX family with its latest GX720 and GX620 models.

The new notebooks are made of unconventional materials also, namely wood, leather and carbon fiber. What makes them really special is the nifty design that is both suitable for business and regular users as well.

Shortly after having launched the gaming laptop in the GX 600 family, MicroStar International introduced a new offering of "biodegradable" notebooks. MSI's models are inspired by Asustek's previous models in the bamboo-ish EcoBook and more elegant models such as the full-leather-covered U-Series.

The new designs have been introduced at the CeBIT expo and come in 17- and 15.4-inch form-factor. The biggest achievement lies is the notebook chassis itself, that is now built with less conventional materials. For instance, the MSI GX620 model will be available covered in wood, leather or re-enforced with carbon fiber inserts painted in glossy silver.

The MSI GX720 model will be designed to match a sports car: the top lid is covered in high-quality leather that has (unfortunately) been painted in pimp-pink, which should severely cripple its appeal unless you have a crush on the above-mentioned color. The GX720 notebook is powered by AMD hardware and comes with the latest generation of graphics card in the ATI Mobility Radeon family. Currently, there are few details available about the notebook's hardware.

The GT-730 model also comes with ATI Mobility Radeon graphics, but it comes in a much elegant and classic design, covered in a black lacquer coat. More than that, it will come with a built-in subwoofer to give your sound system a boost. There is no word on pricing, availability or the final configuration for the new series of notebooks at the moment of writing.
