Rumors regarding MSI's plans to launch an AMD Fusion tablet have just been confirmed as the company has showcased at the CeBIT fair, which takes place right now in Hannover, Germany, the Windpad 110W Ontario C-50 powered slate.

The C-50 APU (accelerated processing unit) was specially designed for highly mobile devices as it features a rather low 9W TDP while also offering dual Bobcat out-of-order processing cores which are run at 1GHz base frequency.

These are accompanied by an on-die graphics core, dubbed the Radeon HD 6250, that packs 80 stream processors, 8 texturing units and 4 ROPs, the GPU running at 250MHz.

But the most important part of the integrated GPU is the UVD 3 media decoding engine which enables AMD's APU to handle 1080p video content in a variety of formats (except for Blu-ray).

MSI has paired AMD's APU with a 32GB solid state drive, a G-sensor, a light sensor and WiFi connectivity, all tucked away under a 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen.

The operating system of choice is Windows 7 Home Premium, but the tablet also sports a few MSI specific enhancements, such as the Wind Touch user interface, the Easy Face log-in application as well as the Easy Viewer app, which allows for easy touch-controlled photo browsing.

Together with the 110W, MSI has also showcased the Windpad 100A tablet that is based on an Nvidia Tegra 2 SoC and runs Google's Android 3.0, code-named Honeycomb, operating system.

No details regarding the battery life of the slate were provided by the company during the show.

Just months ago, AMD showcased a special version of the Ontario C-50 APU which required only 5W to function while featuring the same operating clocks as its more power-hungry sibling.

This version was specially designed for tablet use and received a simpler memory controller, that supports a limited number of frequencies and terminations, as well as fewer peripheral ports (such as USB), and video outputs. (via ComputerBase)
