Like all of NVIDIA's partners, MSI has unleashed new GTS 450 cards for the consumer base, but the company has now turned its gaze towards a more or less completely unrelated segment, that of industrial applications like VPN, VoIP and NAS, even unveiling a new motherboard for them.

Motherboard makers always have to seek a good balance between price and performance when it comes to all sorts of products, but industrial hardware is especially focused on efficiency.

Platforms intended for embedded systems or other such installments need to be not only feature-packed and compact, but also low on the power hunger meter.

Micro-Star International strove to meet all these requirements when it created the IM-PV-N, its latest platform intended for Virtual Private Networks (VPN), among other things.

One thing is that the product is powered by the Pine Trail platform from Intel, even featuring an Atom D425 or D525 processor.

There are also a pair of DDR3 SO-DIMM slots, as well as the GMA (Graphics Media Accelerator) 3150 integrated graphics.

Furthermore, the hardware developer threw in a CompactFlash card slot, a D-Sub output and, most importantly, four Gigabit Ethernet connectors.

Finally, the platform boasts four SATA ports and the design succeeds in keeping heat to manageable levels without the need for any fans.

MSI expects this newcomer to end up as part of VPN, NAS (network attached storage) and VoIP (voice over Internet Protocols) applications.

“With a compact 6.7” x 6.7” size, IM-PV-N is designed with rich I/O functionality and has the new levels of performance and graphics for customer's demanding in network security applications such as VPN (Virtual Private Network ), VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol ) and NAS (Network Attached Storage ),” states the pres release.

Unfortunately, the official announcement issued by the company mentioned nothing in the way of pricing.
