Ready to tackle the DirectX 11 mobile segment, MSI has announced that two of its gaming laptops would soon be reaching Europe with all the high-tier specifications that one would expect. According to the company, the GX740 and GX640 notebook PCs are among the first to boast GDDR5 (Graphics Double Data Rate, version 5) memory. Both laptops are powered by Intel Core i5 central processing units and come with unique MSI features, such as the Cinema Pro and Eco Engine Power Saving technologies.

The laptops are built on the Intel HM55 chipset and a Core i5-430M or Core i7-720QM processor. Both use TFT-LCD displays with a maximum resolution of 1680 x 1050 and that measure 15.4 inches (the GX640) and 17 inches (the GX740).

The mobile PCs can have up to 8GB of RAM and a storage capacity of 500GB or 640GB, as well as a DVD writer or a Blu-ray drive, according to customer preferences. Also, the GX640 boast an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 with 1GB of memory, whereas the GX740 features the 1GB HD 5870.

As far as connectivity capabilities and I/O options are concerned, the two gaming notebooks come with built-in Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi and optional Bluetooth V2.0+EDR. The two laptops also have 4-in-1 card readers, 2-megapixel webcams and special MSI technologies that enhance the two products' functionality and energy efficiency.

The Eco Engine Power Saving Technology, for instance, allows users to select between five self-explanatory power-management levels, namely Presentation, Game, Movie, Word Processing and Turbo Battery. Another special technology is the Cinema Pro, which can allow consumers to switch to the HD movie mode that enhances picture quality.

The MSI GX640 and GX740 run on 6/9-cell ion batteries and are expected to become available in Europe next month. They will carry price tags of 1,049 and 1,099 Euro, respectively.
