Taiwan-based MSI is reportedly planning the launch of a new 14-inch variant of its recently released line of ultraportable, slim computer systems, dubbed X-Slim series. The company's new X-Slim laptop will be marketed as the X400 and will likely be launched in time for this year's Computex computer show, held in Taipei between June 2 and June 6. Despite no official specifications being available at this time, the system will likely be built on the same Intel CULV platform that is featured inside MSI's other X-Slim notebooks, including the X320, X340 and X600.

According to Italian-language notebookitalia, MSI has recently presented its new X-Slim series at a press conference in Rappongi, Japan. The line has already been formerly introduced in other parts of the world, with the company showcasing the X320, X340 and X600 models. However, it looks like the Taiwanese manufacturer has had another ace up its sleeve, one that will be known as the X400 and will be available in a 14-inch form factor. Unfortunately, we still have to wait for the official specifications of the new model, which will likely become available in time for Computex 2009 in Taipei, Taiwan.

MSI has already stated that it has big plans for its newly released line of CULV-based X-Slim ultraportable computer systems, and it expects the market for slim and ultraportable computer systems to record a success rate similar to that of today's netbooks, which provide users with a smaller form factor and a slower overall performance.

Since the release of MSI's ultrathin portable computer, the new Intel-based systems have been compared with Apple's MacBook Air, one of the first ultraportable computer systems to sport an ultrathin design and provide the basics in portable computing. However, MSI's systems are expected to be cheaper, consequently making them affordable to a wider range of users.
