Micro Star International has recently announced the official debut of its ultra-slim X340 notebook, designed to take advantage of Intel's consumer ultra-low-voltage processor platform. The laptop, which was showcased at the company's booth at
CeBIT 2009 in Hanover, Germany earlier this year, sports a light and ultra-thin design, being only 6 mm at its thinnest and 19.8 mm at its widest point. Weighing in at just 1.3kg, including
battery, the new X340 is part of a new generation of consumer PCs that provide users with a larger screen and improved performance without sacrificing on portability.
Designed as an alternative to the increasingly popular netbook systems, the X-Slim X340 model from MSI is equipped with an Intel Core 2 Solo ULV processor and is featured with a 13-inch TFT LCD screen. The entire system is built on Intel's GS45 and ICH9M-SFF chipset combo, offering support for up to 2GB of DDR2 800MHz memory and the integrated GMA 4500MDH graphics processor. According to the official specifications of the system, the X340 can be equipped with a large 500GB hard drive, despite its low- and ultra-thin design.
Additional features of the new X-Slim X340 include a 1.3MP webcam, integrated Gigabit Ethernet LAN and wireless 802.11 b/g/n with optional Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, 2-in-1 card reader, 1.3MP webcam, 2 USB ports, 1 D-Sub for an external display, and a choice for a 4-cell or an 8-cell battery pack.
Despite no internal optical drive, the X340 can be equipped with an external DVD Super-Multi drive, connected through one of the available USB ports. In addition, according to MSI, the X340 can be equipped with an IEEE 802.16e WiMAX module, providing the end-user with an extensive support for connecting to the Internet. Unfortunately, the company hasn't unveiled any specific details on the system's pricing and availability.
