MSI, one of the early adopters of Intel's CULV platform for ultra-thin, ultraportable computer systems, has announced today the expansion of its X-Slim series with the introduction of a new model, the 15.6-inch X610. Designed to provide users with an alternative to some of the other CULV-based systems available on the market, the new laptop has been featured with AMD's Neo processor platform, capable of providing a
better multimedia experience in a thin and light form factor.

Based on AMD's RS690E chipset, the new laptop will provide users with a choice for an AMD Athlon Neo processor, coupled with up to 4GB of DDR2 memory and the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 graphics solution. The laptop is said to be capable of providing a high-quality multimedia experience, in a package that weighs in at just 2.1kg and is just 1 inch thick, that is, with the standard battery pack.

Additional features of the new MSI X-Slim X610 laptop include the support for the high-capacity 640GB SATA hard drive, the 1.3MP webcam, Gigabit LAN and wireless 802.11 b/g/n with optional Bluetooth connectivity, a 2-in-1 media card reader and no internal optical drive. The laptop sports the usual array of connectivity options, including three USB 2.0 ports, D-Sub and HDMI and microphone-in and headphone out jacks.

The system can be equipped with either a 6-cell or a 9-cell battery pack, depending on configuration, and measures just 39.2cm x 25.5cm x 2.5cm. Although not very specific, MSI claims that the X610 is capable of delivering twice the battery life of traditional laptops, making it an ideal choice for users looking for an ultraportable multimedia laptop. Unfortunately, there are no words on the system's pricing and availability at this time.
