Micro-Star International, one of the leading motherboard makers and providers of high quality and reliable products worldwide, has recently announced the introduction of IM-945GSE, an Ultra Low Power Platform designed specifically for Intel Atom Processor N270. As expected, the company used state of the art technologies in the development of this new platform.

MSI's new motherboard is based on Intel Atom processor N270 and the Mobile Intel 945GSE Express chipset. The IM-945GSE is fanless and comes to meet the requirements of an ultra-low power platform able to make any customer happy. The new board provides mini-ITX form factor platform into solid embedded applications.

The company put a wide range of I/O connectivity options on the new IM-945GSE, including dual Intel GbE LAN, 6 RS-232 ports, DVI and VGA interface for dual displays. Digital signage, POS, KIOSK and automation with affordable expenditure are among the scenarios the MSI IM-945GSE board can support. This new device comes with wide heatsink as fanless solution, eliminating this way the risk of fan failures.

Combined with the MSI IM-945GSE, the Intel Atom N270 processor can deliver robust performance-per-watt. The processor features an average 0.6W power consumption and a 2.5W thermal envelope courtesy of the Intel 45 nanometer fabrication process. The latest SSE3 instruction sets of the processor are meant to enhance its performance for multimedia and gaming applications.

The chipset combines Intel's 82945GSE Graphics Memory Controller Hub with the I/O Controller Hub 7-M (ICH7-M) and is able to offer extended I/O capability including 2GB memory capacity, 6 USB ports and SATA2 interface. The MSI IM-945GSE is aiming at bringing revolutionary technology to the traditional definition of the low power and cost-effective segment.

The chipset also includes Intel's GMA950 Graphics Media Accelerator which features full support for DirectX9c and OpenGL 1.4. The two Intel 82574L MSI IM-945GSE controllers feature Gigabit Ethernet, support leverage performance and offer low power and small footprint.
