The peripheral has 128 KB ROM memory for macro storage

It's easy enough to program a mouse's sensitivity settings and button macros via a Windows software program, but “true” gaming mice, true gaming peripherals really, are the ones that can store such details on-board.

MSI's new W8 mouse can do that, at least for its button macros, thanks to the on-board 128 KB ROM memory.

That's just one of its assets, though. Another is the adjustable weight system, while a third is the 5,600 DPI sensor with on-the-fly adjustment support. That's what the “DPI” button above the scroll wheel is there for.

The MSI Gaming W8 mouse is a black, ambidextrous thing, one of the few with palm-grip design (concave edges to keep a firm hold of it).

You'll still need to use software to actually set the macros, though. It's included in the box.

MSI should score decent sales with the MSI Gaming Series W8 mouse even though it only seldom releases peripherals.

For now, there aren't any color options besides black, and it's unlikely that MSI will release any. Not too great a loss, since gamers look at the screen instead of their peripherals, and it's not like they'd be all that visible during an all-night raid session anyway.
