Following previously leaked details, Taiwan-based MSI has decided to formally announce today the expansion of its line of ultrathin notebooks, dubbed X-Slime Series, with the introduction of the new X400 and X600 models, built on the company's experience with the X340. The new ultra-portable systems have been designed to provide enthusiasts with a choice for a 14-inch and a 15-inch notebook that combines the ultra-portability features of netbooks with the performance of entry-level notebooks.

“I believe MSI’s latest X-Slim Series is a complete line of products designed to set new industry standards and the introduction of the X-Slim Series will further strengthens our position in the notebook market and helps us reach a new development milestone,” said Mr. Joseph Hsu, chief executive officer of MSI.

According to MSI, its new X-Slim X400 and X600 notebooks will be made available in the second quarter of 2009, boasting a lightweight and thin design. Both models are less than one-inch thick and are featured with a 16:9 theater-call LED screen, full I/O ports and optional Blu-ray drives. In addition, unlike previous models, MSI announced that the X600 would take advantage of a discrete graphics card, designed to boast performance of the overall system.

MSI's upcoming X-Slim notebooks are expected to provide computer users with some of the lightest designs in their respective size categories, with the 14-inch X-Slim X400 boasting a weight of just 1.5kg and the larger 15-inch X600 weighing just 2.1kg with battery. Unfortunately, MSI hasn't unveiled any details regarding the pricing of the upcoming notebooks.

Being one of the first companies to adopt Intel's latest CULV platform, MSI took its time in expanding its X-Slim series by providing users with a number of options. According to the latest announcement, the X-Slim series will deliver an optional 8-cell battery for the X340 notebook and an optional 9-cell battery for the X600.
