It goes to show that it doesn't take an Intel CPU to make a gaming laptop

People may be misled by reviews and reports into thinking that just because AMD stopped competing directly with Intel on the high-end CPU market, it doesn't have high-end CPUs or APUs at all.

Naturally, this is not the case. AMD's A-Series, especially the upcoming Richland collection of accelerated processing units, can easily breeze through high-quality games.

Their CPU cores aren't as strong as Intel's Haswell will be, but the integrated graphics are much better than the HD 4000 series.

Not that the latter will make much of a difference for the MSI GX70 3BE gaming notebook. The mobile PC has AMD Radeon HD 8970M 2GB GDDR5 after all (Neptune).

Indeed, Micro-Star International has created a new gaming notebook, powered by the quad-core Richland AMD A10-5750M, with a base frequency of 2.5 Ghz and a Turbo Core setting of 3.5 GHz.

The chip also has 4 MB L2 cache memory and a TDP (thermal design power) of 35W.

Like all self-respecting gaming notebooks, the newcomer has a display with a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Speaking of which, the diagonal is of 17.3 inches and the aspect ratio of 16:9 (although this much could be gleamed from the resolution).

Storage space is provided by a 7200 RPM hard disk drive (1 TB) and, possibly, two more HDDs or SSDs if customers feel like spending extra on them.

An optical drive (BD Combo / DVD Super Multi) is included as well, although it might be possible to remove it and use an HDD/SSD instead. This, possibly, could be the reason for one of those two extra drive spaces mentioned above.

Moving on, the MSI GX70 3BE, in true gaming laptop fashion, has a better than average Internet connection (to put it lightly), thanks to a Killer Gigabit NIC. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 are also present.

Other specs include stereo speakers + subwoofer, three video ports (HDMI, VGA, DisplayPort), an HD webcam, a bunch of USB ports, a card reader and audio jacks.

All the hardware is packed inside a frame of 16.85 x 11.33 x 2.17-inch / 428 x 288 x 55 mm.
