MSI is preparing for the Holiday shopping season with the release of a new 17.3-inch gaming notebook in the company's popular GT780 range that this time increases the memory available for the Nvidia GTX 570M dedicated graphics card built-in from 1.5GB to a whopping 3GB.

Weighting in no less than 3.9Kg (almost 8.6 pounds), the new MSI GT780DXR is built around a 17.3-inch LED backlit display that uses a native Full HD (1920x1080) resolution.

Under the hood of the MSI notebook, users will be greeted by one of Intel's fastest mobile Sandy Bridge processors, namely the Core i7-2670QM, which can be seconded by as much as 16GB of DDR3 system memory.

The Core i7-2670QM features four processing cores clocked at a 2.2GHz base frequency, which can ramp up to 3.1GHz in Turbo mode, 6MB of Level 3 cache memory, HyperThreading support as well as a dual-channel DDR3-1333 integrated memory controller.

As far as storage is concerned, the MSI GT780DXR can be configured to feature as much as two hard drives with a spindle speed of 7200RPM, installed in a RAID 0 configuration, delivering up to 1.5TB of storage space.

A DVD burner also complements the standard version of the GT780DXR, but users can also opt for a Blu-ray drive if they so desire.

As mentioned previously, graphics is handled by an Nvidia-built discrete GPU, the GTX 570M that is coupled with 3GB of fast GDDR5 video buffer, while the audio sub-system is comprised of two regular speakers and a Dynaudio subwoofer.

The rest of the features list includes a LED backlit keyboard developed in collaboration with SteelSeries (which sports quite a great deal of gaming-oriented features), a pair of USB 3.0 ports, eSATA and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, HDMI 1.4 and VGA video outputs as well as a 9-cell battery pack.

The GT780DXR should become available shortly and pricing for the base version of the notebook that comes with 12GB of RAM, 1TB of storage space setup in RAID 0 and a DVD burner is set at $1,749.99 (1,296 EUR).
