While ultrabooks are getting detailed left and right, PC makers are not forgetting about gamers that move a lot, like MSI made perfectly clear when it developed the GT780DX.

The GT780DX is a notebook measuring 17 inches in diagonal and equipped with top-notch CPUs and discrete graphics.

While the Intel Core i7 quad-core chip has its own integrated HD graphics core, the real gaming prowess comes from NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 570M.

This is the Santa Clara, California-based company's second greatest mobile graphics solution, as far as single-GPU models are concerned that is.

Needless to say, the laptop would not be a gaming beast if it did not have matching memory capabilities.

As such, adding to the 1.5 GB of GDDR5 of the graphics adapter itself are up to 32 GB of DDR3 system RAM (random access memory).

Storage space is not lacking either (750 GB HDD or a SSD, with or without RAID, among other possibilities) and neither are the connectivity and I/O options.

USB 3.0 is present and accounted for (two ports), as is a trio of USB 2.0 ports, eSATA, HDMI, a 720p HD webcam, a memory card reader, Blu-ray, Gigabit LAN, WiFi, etc.

Furthermore, in the company's own words, the newcomer “not only packs performance to keep the extreme gamer engaged, it also comes with a SteelSeries keyboard specifically designed for serious gaming.”

Speaking of input, MSI offers five backlight schemes that will light up the W, A, S, D and CTRL keys, which see the most use during gameplay.

Moreover, the Windows key was moved to the right side, so that one won't accidentally minimize the game window.

As already mentioned, the MSI GT780DX possesses a high degree of customizability, which means the price can vary a great deal.

Still, to give a point of reference, a model with 12 GB DDR3, 750 GB HDD, DVD, GTX 570M GPU and Intel Core i7 2670QM costs $1,550 (1,094.71 Euro).
