Micro Star International, one of the world's leading vendors of computer hardware and personal computer systems, has recently announced an update to its line of ultraportable X-Slim series of computer systems, following the introduction of the new X420 model, a 14-inch laptop that is featured with the latest ATI Mobility Radeon graphics chip. The new laptop combines Intel's increasingly popular CULV platform with a discrete graphics solution from ATI, providing end-users with more choices in terms of performance and design.

Ultraportable laptops, like the X-Slim series from MSI, are focused on providing end-users with a very basic computing experience, in a form factor that enables an easy transportation. The latest entry, the X420 model takes advantage of the experience the Taiwanese company has gathered and provides users with a choice for a new 14-inch laptop, featuring the Intel CULV platform and AMD's latest line DirectX 11-compatible, Mobility Radeon graphics.

As far as technical specifications go, the X-Slim X420 is built on the GS45 and ICH9M-SFF chipset combo, offering support for the Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 or SU4100 processors. Users get a choice for a Mobility Radeon HD 5430 graphics chipset with up to 1GB of DDR3 VRAM, two DDR3 SO-DIMMs, a large-capacity 500GB SATA hard drive and a 14-inch display, featuring a resolution of 1366 by 768 pixels. The laptop also comes with a 2-in-1 media card reader, 1.3MP webcam, Intel's Shirley Peak wireless solution and a choice for a 4-cell or 8-cell battery pack. On the connectivity side there's HDMI, D-Sub, two USB 2.0 ports, e-SATA/USB combo, Mic-in, Headphone-out, RJ-45 and Kensington lock port.

With a 4-cell battery pack, the laptop is said to weight-in at just 1.88kg, measuring 35.0cm x 23.4cm x 2.41cm. Designed with portability in mind, the laptop will be available with a chiclet keyboard and a Cappuccino Brown Color film print. Unfortunately, there's no word on pricing and availability details at this time.
