Taiwanese manufacturer MSI has recently updated its line of small-sized, low-power Wind-series PCs with the introduction of the company's latest Atom N280-powered netbook. Simply dubbed Wind U100 Plus, MSI's new netbook system is designed to provide the company's fans with a variety of colors and a hardware configuration that follows the lines of most netbooks currently available on the market. In
addition, according to the company's claims, the Wind U100 Plus is capable of providing its users with up to 7 hours of standard battery life, a main feature for this class of PCs.
The latest U100 Plus from MSI is designed on the Intel 945GMS and ICH7M chipset combo and offers support for Intel's 1.66GHz Atom N280, the follow-up to the highly successful Atom N270. The 1024 by 600 pixel resolution supported by the 10-inch LCD panel is powered by Intel's GMA950 on-board graphics. The chipset also enables users to take advantage of an increased memory, with support for up to 2GB of memory.
Additionally, the U100 Plus packs a large 160GB 2.5-inch SATA hard drive, a 4-in-1 card reader and the usual array of connectors, including 3 USB 2.0 ports, D-Sub, Ethernet LAN, Mic-in and Headphone. Users will also be able to take advantage of the built-in 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth V2.0+EDR wireless connectivity options and the 1.3MP webcam and stereo speakers. The system measures 260x180x19-31.5mm and weighs approximately 1kg with a 3-cell battery, though an optional 6-cell battery is also available.
Despite no word on pricing and availability, the U100 Plus is expected to provide users with a variety of coloring options, including Rose Champagne and Metallic Blue, which come as additions to the Imperial Black, Angelic White and Regal Red.
