Taiwanese manufacturer MSI has decided it was high time for a change on the scene, namely for the introduction of products that aren't part of the company's range of Wind netbooks, or Intel X58-based platforms. This is where the new VR220 YA Edition notebook systems come into place, delivering a bright-colored design in a small, lightweight form factor. The new range of portable computer systems the company boasts appears to have been specifically built for women users, as they come with a stylish look complemented by three different coloring options, including Denim Blue, Coral Pink and WASABI Green.

In terms of technical specifications, MSI's new ultra-portable computer system can be compared with one of those low-cost netbook systems that are powered by Intel's highly successful Atom processor. However, the new 12.1-inch VR220 notebook has been built on the Intel GL40 and ICH9M chipset, meaning, it can be powered by either an Intel Pentium Dual-core, or a Celeron processor. The system boasts two SO-DIMM DDR2 memory DIMMs, which can support a maximum of 4GB of memory, while the system graphics is handled by an Intel built-in solution.

Obviously, the new VR22 is better than the Atom-powered netbooks, as it is equipped with an 802.11 b/g/n wireless module, Gigabit LAN, modem, 3-in-1 card reader, 1.3MP webcam, a high-capacity 320GB hard drive, and a 4-cell battery (an 8-cell battery option is also available). Users will also get to benefit from a super-multi optical drive, and an optional DRV receiver, which allows them to watch and record TV programs right on their notebook.

In addition, the new VR220 YA Edition notebook comes with an exclusive ECO Engine Power Management System that is meant to provide users with the means to manage the level of power their system will consume. Users can switch among the five different modes, including the Gaming mode, Movie mode, Presentation mode, Office mode, and the Turbo Battery mode.

The system weighs 1.8kg, including the battery, and should be out in time for Christmas. So, if you are planning to purchase a system that is a bit more powerful than netbooks, be on the lookout for the new VR200 YA Edition from MSI.
