Micro-Star International may have just revealed the X460 notebook, but that is just half of its recent announcement, as it has also put together the X460DX, one that seems to trade a CPU option for a discrete GPU.
The MSI X460 mobile personal computer was first
revealed back at Computex 2011 in early June and has now been
formally released.
Turns out, however, that it is just on of two notebooks, the other being one X460DX, though the overall specifications are largely similar.
In fact, the only two things that are likely to stand out to anyone comparing the two are the CPU and video options.
Where the X460 could be based on the Intel Core i5-2410M or i7-2630QM central processing unit, the X460DX can only have the former.
On the flip side, one might say that the X460DX makes up for this by featuring a discrete graphics solution, not just the integrated Intel GMA HD 3000.
More specifically, it boasts the NVIDIA GeForce GT540M, with DirectX 11 support and (probably) Optimus.
The outfit put in up to 8 GB of RAM (DDR3) to back up the Core i5 chip, while a hard disk drive provides 500 GB, 640 GB or 750 GB of storage space.
Also, a DVD Super Multi drive is present, as well as an HD webcam, THX TruStudio Pro audio and various connectivity and I/O.
The list includes USB 3.0 (2 ports), USB 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0+HS, HDMI output and VGA.
Finally, the 14-inch panel has LED backlighting and a native resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels (HD) and the full weight of the machine (including the battery that provides up to 8 hours of life) is 2 kilograms.
Unfortunately, as with the X460, MSI did not actually provide any pricing details. Fortunately, since online listings should show up son, if they haven't already, this mystery won't stay unsolved for long.
