The vast majority of motherboards built around AMD's 780G chipset currently come without support for 125-watt processors. As previously reported, more motherboard models produced by top-tier manufacturers
fail when paired with high TDP processors, such as AMD's Phenom X4 9850 Black Edition.

MSI faced the same problem in its AMD-based motherboard lineup, but the company just announced a design updated version to its mainstream AMD 790X motherboard offerings, that now come with full support for power-hungry quad-core processors.

According to the manufacturer, four out of six MSI boards in the entry-level and mainstream markets can now be paired with AMD's 125-watt processors. The compliant motherboard models are K9A2GM-FIH (AMD 780G), K9N2GM-FIH (Nvidia GeForce 8200), K9A2VM-FD ( AMD 780V), K9N2GM-FD (Nvidia GeForce 8200).

The other two motherboards only support 95-watt processors, and are primarily targeted at the low-cost market, as they will run in low-cost, low-power computer systems, and are less likely to be affected by compatibility issues.

The K9A2GM-F v2 (AMD 780V) and K9N2GM-F v2 (Nvidia GeForce 8200) will not support the latest processors from AMD because of the cost-effective power phase modules, that cannot deliver the necessary 125 watts of power.

However, the update did not include one of the most popular models from MSI, namely the K9A2 CF, and the company claims that it has not decided yet whether it will release a revision for the moment.

MSI is the first company to respond its customers' demand in respects of high-power CPUs. Other motherboard manufacturers are still affected by broad incompatibility with AMD's Phenom 9850 Black Edition, Athlon X2 6000 /6400 , FX-62, Phenom X4 9750 - 9850 - 9950 and the upcoming models with higher clock speeds.
