Microsoft has updated its renowned Office applications suite,
MS Office for Mac. Both 2004 and 2008 versions have received updates that improve the security, stability, and performance of the suite. As always, the updates to MS Office are accompanied by a tweaked up Open XML File Format Converter.
Microsoft Office 2008 Update 12.1.5 MS claims that in the latest version of Office 2008 for Mac improvements have been made for all of the included applications. As such...
· Security is improved - This update fixes vulnerabilities in Office 2008 for Mac that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer's memory with malicious code. For more information, see the security bulletin listed earlier in this document.
· Stability is improved - This update fixes an issue that causes Office 2008 applications to close unexpectedly when you open or use Office 2008 applications.
· Performance is improved when typing in Excel and in PowerPoint - This update improves typing performance in Excel and in PowerPoint when documents from a network share or from a shared folder on a virtual machine appear in the recently used files list. Microsoft Office 2004 Update 11.5.3 For the 2004 edition of Microsoft's Office for Mac, improvements span document launch and a few tweaks in Excel. Microsoft lists the changes as follows:
· Stability is improved when you open documents - This update fixes issues that cause Word 2004 applications to quit unexpectedly when you open a document.
Improvements for Microsoft Excel 2004 for Mac:
· Stability is improved when you open or close workbooks. The Open XML File Format Converter, now at version 1.0.2, contains several improvements that enhance stability and performance, according to Microsoft. Moreover, the update also includes patches for vulnerabilities allowing an attacker to overwrite the contents of a computer's memory with malicious code, says the company behind the Windows OS.
