The HD+ display of 15.6 inches features both HDMI and USB inputs

A monitor with a diagonal of 15.6 inches isn't exactly what we'd call a portable display, but Mobile Monitor Technologies (MMT) chose to advertize the Monitor2Go in that manner regardless.

The reason is easy enough to understand at least. Rather than PCs and/or notebooks, the Monitor2Go is built to interface with Apple Macbooks, iPhones, iPads, iPods and iMacs.

"Using iPhones and iPads in the workplace has become a global phenomenon, but viewing, interacting with, and sharing content on these devices can be extremely problematic due to their small screens," said Larry Pensack, president of MMT.

"Now with the ability to add dual display capabilities to mobile devices, Monitor2Go is an ideal solution whether you're working or enjoying personal media content."

The dual-display capabilities are there thanks to the HDMI input and the USB mini-B input, which work independently from the two spare USB-A accessory ports.

There is more though: it is possible to daisy chain up to 6 Monitor2Gos off a host computer's single USB port through DisplayLink USB virtual graphics.

This does rather defeat the purpose of this being a "mobile" display, but we digress, and the newcomer is, at least, light and thin: the 15.6-inch diagonal isn't too large for normal backpacks, and the LCD is 0.45 inches deep (11.43 mm) at its thinnest point and 1.09 inches at its thickest (27.68 inches).

Moreover, the Monitor2Go can produce resolutions of up to 1,600 x 900 pixels (HD+), though it will ultimately depend on whether the device connected to it can produce such quality or not. Tablets should have little trouble, but phones may be trickier.

Finally, MMT tossed in an optional VESA bracket, an optional battery module, an audio output and 180-degree screen pivot. Sales are already underway, for $329 / 253-329 Euro. A 1366 x 768 version can be found too, for $299 / 230-299 Euro.
